Sound Mixer – Cinematographer – Producer
Sound: Kleven is a freelance Production Sound Mixer, known as a hard working and creative problem solver, strong collaborator and for his warm presence on set. He is known for his sound work on narrative and feature films, documentaries, and corporate video. Sound clients have included Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon, The University of Washington, Concur, ARRI Cameras, Nickelodeon, and ABC TV. He owns an excellent sound kit featuring a Sound Devices recorder, DPA and Sennheiser microphones and Zaxcom wireless equipment.
Camera: In addition to his quality sound work, he has experience doing “sound and camera” or putting together a sound, camera, and field producer package if this better meets your needs. Kleven has shot and recorded projects in Europe, Mexico, and Alaska. His gear list features high-quality yet portable Canon cameras, Rokinon Cine DS lenses, Dracast LED lighting and the above-mentioned sound gear.
Producer/Director: Kleven has a broad background in project management and development. From directing Sam Shephard’s Buried Child at WWU to music videos, short form narrative, documentary work and countless corporate projects Kleven is adept at fostering a creative environment. His calm and warm leadership style helps bring projects in on time and under budget. He is a partner in Heartstone Studios which develops content from concept to delivery for a variety of format and client types. Heartstone clients have included The Center for Wooden Boats, musician and glass artist Preston Singletary, The Washington Access Fund and United Churches Emergency Fund.
Michael Kleven has been passionate about photography all of his life. Clients have included lients have included the city of Bellevue’s Youth Link program, NW environmental advocates, Forterra, author and speaker May McCarthy. His work has been published in the Cirque Literary Journal and the Seattle Times.
